Hi, I’m Brian. I’m the owner of PhatBar Bakery & Café and this is my story

Growing up in Winnipeg, the youngest of five in a single-parent household, some of my best memories are of baking with my mom. I loved baking because it meant I’d get to spend quality time with her and enjoy some delicious treats, too. For as long as I can remember, I have dreamed of opening my own bakery.

When I was 13 years old, I moved to Edmonton with Mom and have called it home ever since. Flash forward to today, one of my favourite things to do is explore the wide variety of dessert experiences this city has to offer. But I’ve often wished there was a bakery that was open late, so that I could go after work or when those late-night sweet cravings hit.

That’s how the idea for PhatBar began. 

I decided I would start a bakery that stayed open until late, that served amazing desserts and drinks, and that would incorporate some of my all-time favourite things: 90’s memorabilia, hip hop music, graffiti, and arcade games.

And now, thanks to the support of my family, friends and business partners, I get to share this dream with all of you.
